McLaren to Begin Recycling 12c and 650s

With a back long of unwanted early McLarens (mainly the 12c and 650s) that just can be sold, dealers have been asking McLaren for a solution. Many of these cars were either traded in for newer models, or lemon lawed due to fires or other mechanical “oopsies” (the proper McLaren terminology).

Their solution: Ship all the cars back to the McLaren Technology Centre, and revamp them into new super cars.

“We’ve already done this in the past, turning the same chassis and motor into the 570s, 570GT, 600LT, and the GT, as well as the 720s for a multitude of other projects (750s, Senna, etc).”, McLaren CEO Zack Brown told us.

They plan to strip these cars of their bodies, retune the 3.8L, and use the transaxle and mild hybrid unit from the new Artua to produce around 800 BHP. Then, an as of yet unreleased body will drape the tub, fitted with the optional titanium partial cage that was an option on the 765LT for stiffness, and the interior is to be carried over from the 750s. The suspension and steering will also be carryovers from the 12c/650s, but some software changes will be made to ensure a “different feel”, so they say.

Catch all that? We barely did.

The new car, code named “24c”, because it, and we quote “should be twice as good as a 12c”, will be unveiled at the planned 2025 Chicago GP.
